Travel Karma strikes again

Our last day in Lima.  Home tomorrow for Patti, Don, Blanca and Tim.  We meet after breakfast to plan out the day.  We are a little worried about Don, seems he missed a stepped leaving the bar last night and just think he wasn't drinking.  Clearly, Blanca losing her phone to the Travel Karma Gods affected Don's hip and caused the problem.

So onto our last day in the city.  Don and Patti don't want to take a cab into the city and walk around some of the churches and for sure the catacombs.  A high point on Blanca and Tim's list.  Dan and I are anxious to see more of the city so we are in the downtown car.  Apparently, according to the concierge we should not take a street cab only one from the hotel.

Don has decided that the best treatment for his hip pain since Advil, clearly has helped?? is to take a walk.  So the Inka Market is about a mile away and fairly flat,  Patti has a few more things to buy they will go to the market and then home to rest.

According to Patti's text to me:  Don and I walked to within 100 feet of the market and he tripped over the uneven sidewalk or his hip gave out and he fell face first and hit the pavement.  Police came, ambulance came, bystanders assisted to bus bench, someone brought water.  He had abrasians to his face, glasses smashed against the bridge of his nose and scratched and he landed on his right hand causing swelling and immediate bruising.  Of course, Don said he was fine, refused the ambulance, refused a cab and he and Patti walked back to the hotel over a mile back.   Patti iced the area, cleaned the abrasians, all the bleeding controlled.  Advil on board.  Tim realigned his glasses, Dan and I advised him he needs xrays as soon as he returns to the states since a delay in fracture care if his hand is broken, can mean surgery later on.  I guess it is best to travel with 4 nurses.

Last night in Lima celebratory dinner was moved from local restaurant to the hotel restaurant.  Don insists he is okay and plans to have dinner with us all.  Clearly, this is a sign from the Travel God  but that was just the beginning of the chaos that occurred at the end of the day.

Initial travel plans for Tim, Blanca, Patti and Don to leave on the 26th.  They were going to stay and extra day.  Dan and I are going to see Lake Titicaca the rest of the group had no desire to do that so were going home.  Talking with Patti she said her flight left in the afternoon at 1:50  they chose that time so everyone could get a slow start to the day, Dan and I are leaving in the morning at 0800 for an 10:50 flight.

Bam!! One more thing.  I was typing the blog and checked in for our flight, Patti and Don had printed boarding passes earlier and Tim and Blanca were in the upstairs lounge printing their boarding passes.  A text comes across from Tim to Patti telling her to check her boarding pass info the flight doesn't leave tomorrow at 1:50 PM but actually 0150 in the morning just after midnight, it is the first flight of the day.  A few 4 letter words flew back and forth and they started packing since they are leaving the hotel tonight  at 9PM.  Tim changed the rental car, Blanca the cab to the airport.  We figured out we could still have a farewell dinner but the flyers really didn't want to drink or eat heavily.  The Petersen's instead of having to leave first are the last to leave Lima.

Saddest part.  Patti didn't get her Martini, but Dan and I went to the attached casino to see if we could pay for the trip.  Dan promptly lost Patti's 17 soles, which is about $5.00 and I broke even and came out with the $3.00 I started with.  I guess it is hard to be a big winner when you are playing the penny slots in soles which is 10 sloes is $3.00.

I will add photos with the next entry...I promised Blanca I would start editing them before posting so we all looked better!!!
