Okay now it is just Dan and I. An early morning departure from Lima and we need to leave the hotel at 0800. No problems we are excited to go. We restarted the altitude medications since Puno is higher than Cusco.
To the airport, no problems, check in and check the bags. Locate the gate and sit down find a snack at the local starbucks. We are ready to roll. The plane lands and debarks at 1015. We were suppose to board at that time. We didn't think too much about it. We couldn't see the sign that tells the next flight out. This is travel tip number 1.
Dan hears our name, grossly mispronounced and races to the gate. It seems it is the last call for our flight and still 20 minutes before it is suppose to take off. We are directed down stairs and to the bus. Travel tip number 2 ALWAYS check for gate changes. Seems they can do that with only 1 announcement that was given in Spanish. Lots of help for us anglo travelers that were at the airport 2 hours early. Last people on the bus and there was another couple that were running across the tarmac that actually boarded after us.
The crazy thing is that there was only 1 other flight that day.... Safe in our seats. Re look at Apple weather. Partly cloudy high in 60's and no rain. Perfect for the next 2 days. Get off the plane and to the waiting car and the rain starts. Thunder and Lightening. This does not bode well for a trip on the lake tomorrow.
The weather cleared about 30 minutes later. The city of Puno is 1 hour from the airport. I was wondering why the cost of airport transportation was $40 US. Looking back it is a great bargain. More later including photos and the 3rd thing not to do at altitiude. Why didn't the Petersen's learn in Cusco.
